Carla: I am from right here in Houston, raised on the southwest side in Alief.

One beautiful baby boy Kaleb, he’s 3.
Favorite local things to do in Houston?
I love shopping the local markets and checking out the awesome local music bands.
Do you have a favorite family-friendly restaurant in the area?
Last Concert Café in the afternoon is awesome. Wonderful patio area with a large sand pit where the kiddos can run around and play.
What is your go-to activity for yourself for pampering or for fun?
A good pedicure when I can get one in!

I own a sassy stationery company called Carla Sue. I also have a nonprofit organization called Keep Houston Dope where I provide free art activities around the Houston area. Keep Houston Dope apparel is now inside Launch Downtown until January 4th. Launch is an amazing store featuring Houston’s most talented makers and entrepreneurs. How has the Houston community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
I do a lot of connecting with the Houston community by vending at local events. The support of the local community has been amazing and is what keeps pushing me when times get hard.
What is the best advice for juggling mommyhood and running a business (or volunteering, working, etc)?
Plan as much as you can, write things down and take deep breaths.
Funniest shortcut/routine for helping you through parenthood?
To get mini breaks from the kiddo I lock myself in the bathroom for a few minutes pretending I’m actually doing something.
What would you tell the old “You” before you had kids?
You’re beautiful, don’t let anyone tell you different.
