Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in the Houston area? I moved here back in 1997 to attend the University of Houston and have been here ever since. I moved around a lot growing up (Chicago, Minnesota, Atlanta to name a few) and knew instantly that Houston was home and I wasn’t going to be leaving!

Child(ren) & Age(s): 2 boys (yah for #boymoms!) ages 11 and 6!

One thing about living in the Houston area that has surprised you the most: It’s true what they say about southern hospitality – time and again, I’m pleasantly surprised by how generous Houstonians are with their ability to be kind. Even though we’re a huge city, the people have hearts of gold!

What is your favorite place to grab a bite in town? We love going to Little Matt’s with the boys and I absolutely adore the Pondicheri Bake Lab! You have to take one of their cooking classes if you haven’t yet!

Favorite things to do/shops to visit in Houston? (Basically, anything that you absolutely adore that is local!) I love getting all my skincare products from switch2pure and the fabulous River Oaks district is a great place for us to go as a family. Our favorite spot in the city is always Discovery Green and for Sugar Land, it would be the Town Square.

How did you get started with running Sugar Land Moms and what do you love about it? I was writing for Popsugar and came across West University Moms Instagram page and thought immediately how cool it would be to have something like that in the community where I was raising my own children. Amanda and I became friends and she really gave me so much support to start my own business and take this amazing roller-coaster ride with her!

I am very passionate about all things motherhood and connecting our community. It has been a thrilling experience to build this platform and to connect with local mamas!  Be sure to check out the Sugar Land Moms Fest 2019  this Sunday; a day of celebration with costumed performersdelicious bitesfabulous Kendra Scott giveaways every hourmusic and more! Support our hometown event as we welcome hundreds of families for a one-of-a-kind fest! Our community sponsor, Memorial Hermann Sugar Land, will help kick-off the festivities with totes for all event attendees (until supplies run out)!

We’ll also be featuring a Lululemon & HIP Fitness sponsored workout session, costumed princesses, mini blow-dry sessions, make your own succulent bar, face painting, photo ops and so much more! One piece of advice you would want to share with other moms.
Be kind to yourself because this job doesn’t get easier with time. If anything, the challenges of big kids seem to outweigh those of a newborn. So don’t be so hard on yourself because, at the end of the day, we’re all imperfect moms trying to raise little humans in an imperfect world!

What’s the happiest moment of your life? The time I met Oprah! Lol, no that was phenomenal too but I’d say it was when they placed my firstborn (Auzan) into my arms. That moment was so intense and exhaustive and exhilarating. There’s never been any experience like the first moments I became a mother.

What’s the funniest thing about being a parent?
Raising little humans who are just as strong-willed as me has to be the funniest (and most challenging) thing. Sometimes I’ll get into arguments with my 5 year old and we’ll be bickering back and forth for a while before I realize that “oh, I’m the adult here”!

Who is the most influential person in your life? My husband! He’s been my best friend since college and I can’t say enough nice things about him. We’re complete opposites and where I am hyper and reactive, he’s calm and deliberate so his opinions mean the world to me.
