Meet A Houston Mom: Meet Lisa Paravati - West University Moms
Lisa Paravati and Family

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in Houston?

I was born in New York and lived there until I was about 10. My family then moved to Georgia, where I grew up and went to college. After graduating, I started travel nursing, which eventually brought me to Florida where I met my husband. We moved to Houston in 2019, so we’ve been here for about seven years now.

Child(ren) and Age(s)?

I have two little boys. Jack age 5 and Dylan age 3.

One thing people would be surprised to know about you.

One thing people might be surprised to know about me is that I’m really good at functioning on very little sleep thanks to years of nursing and raising kids.

Favorite local activities to do in Houston:

My favorite local activities in Houston usually involve getting outside with my kids. We love exploring different playgrounds and parks around the city, and I’m always on the lookout for coffee shops or casual restaurants that have play areas so the kids can run around while we relax. Talyard Brewery and Kumo’s Wanderland are some of my favorites.

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world?

I’m involved with a babysitting app called Bambino as a community coordinator. As a mom of two boys, it was honestly a lifesaver for me when it came to finding trusted childcare. After using it myself, I loved the concept so much that I wanted to help other parents connect with reliable sitters in the community as well. It’s been really rewarding helping families find support and making childcare a little easier.

How has the Houston community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

The Houston community has played a huge role in shaping where I am today. It’s such a welcoming, family-focused city, and I’ve been fortunate to build strong connections with other parents, neighbors, and local organizations. Being surrounded by people who are always willing to share resources, recommendations, and support has made raising my two boys here so much easier and more enjoyable.

What is the best advice for juggling mommyhood and running a business (or volunteering, working, etc)?

The best advice I’ve learned is to give yourself grace and focus on what matters most in each season. Balancing motherhood with work isn’t about doing everything perfectly—it’s about being present and intentional with your time.

As a mom of two boys, I’ve learned that flexibility is key. Some days the kids need more of you, and other days you can focus more on work. Creating simple routines, setting realistic expectations, and not being afraid to ask for help makes a huge difference.

What would you tell the old “You” before you had kids?

I would tell my pre-kid self that life is about to become fuller, louder, and more meaningful in ways you can’t fully imagine yet. The little things you worry about now won’t matter nearly as much once you have kids.

I’d also remind myself that it’s okay not to have everything figured out. Motherhood teaches you as you go, and some of the best moments come from the messy, imperfect days. Trust your instincts more—you’ll know your kids better than anyone.

Most importantly, I’d say to soak up the quiet moments and the freedom you have, but don’t be afraid of what’s coming. Having kids will stretch you, challenge you, and change your priorities, but it will also bring a kind of joy and purpose that’s hard to describe until you experience it.

Funniest shortcut/routine for helping you through parenthood?

One of my funniest (and most effective) shortcuts is lowering the bar on what counts as a “perfect” day. Sometimes dinner is super healthy and homemade… and other times it’s chicken nuggets, frozen pizza, or buttered noodles, and everyone is still happy. Kids honestly don’t care nearly as much as we think they do.

And honestly, one of the best parenting hacks for me has been finding reliable help when I need it. As a busy mom of two boys, using the babysitting app Bambino has been a lifesaver. Knowing I have trusted sitters I can call on makes juggling everything feel a lot less overwhelming.

At the end of the day, my biggest shortcut is remembering that parenting doesn’t have to be perfect to be really good. Sometimes the best moments come from the silly, unplanned ones anyway.
