The Houston community is the reason why I am where I am today. If it wasn’t for my relationships with generous and philanthropic friends, corporate partners and the media over the years, all of this would have been impossible.
The community here in Houston has helped me connect with so many people from diverse backgrounds and has inspired me on my journey to be my best self!
How has the Houston community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
The Houston community and especially the local news teams – KPRC Channel 2 in particular – regularly reach out to me as a reliable source of sex and relationship wisdom. I also have to credit our hospital systems. Methodist and Baylor College of Medicine call me in to educate their physicians and medical students or to present for their large fundraisers….”
How can we support you and your restaurants during this time? Which ones are open?
“All three restaurants are open for to-go and deliveries. For deliveries we ask that we have a 8-10 people minimum, or what many of our friends have done is made a multi-family order to a certain area. We also use Doordash”
“The community has really embraced our product and shared it with others. Whether it has been Debrah at Define: Bellaire who has the product to sample in her studio, local doctors or just the many members of the community sharing their results and how they feel on social media. We are grateful for the opportunity the product has given us to meet more people and help in their wellness journey. “
The Houston community has been so supportive overall…especially the different moms’ groups and neighborhood groups. I think it really helps my business for other parents to see that I’m relatable and that we are all in this together. The majority of my business comes from meeting parents within my local community and referrals.
“Houston is full of good people. Whether or not they are from here or transplanted here, everyone is friendly, willing to help one another and dreams big. This city is so big and vibrant and constantly changing. No one will tell you not to follow your dreams.” Elizabeth of MilkLoveYoga
I often say that I’m Houston’s biggest fan. I have found that here, if you have a dream, there are people who will join you in making it happen. That is so rare and so beautiful. Houston has allowed me the space to make my dream a reality and the community to come alongside me to facilitate its growth.

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in Houston? I am a proud 4th generation Houstonian! I was born here, left to go to Baylor University in Waco but came back after school. I moved to the Montrose area after...
The mom community in Houston has been extremely instrumental to my business! Being able to connect with all of these moms not just on a business level but just having that connection of being a parent and understanding each other has been phenomenal. I would say about 95% of the clientele I have connected with over the past few years have been moms from local mom groups.
How has the Houston community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now? “Houstonians are really great at offering advice and support – especially other moms and women who own businesses. “
Honestly, my best advice will be to find/build a tribe and self-care! My tribe has helped me out in so many ways. If you are a single mom like myself take advantage of the time you have when the kids are gone.
Houston has provided great opportunities to get out and meet people who have contributed greatly in getting this message out to the community.
Houston has been so welcoming to me. I believe part of the charm is that many Houstonians have moved here, just like I did, without knowing many people which creates a welcoming environment. People move from all over the world to be in Houston, which makes it such a diverse and unique place to live.
The Houston community has been incredibly supportive of small businesses. And in general, Houstonians (and Texans) are some of the friendliest people I’ve ever met. My business, Flea at Silver Street, would never be where it is without the support of the local community and I am forever grateful to our family of vendors who have grown with us.
Houston is such a supportive place. My grandfather used to say that if you had a good idea, a bunch of enthusiasm and were a nice person, you could make it here. I think that’s true. I think our city wants to see people succeed and I’m so grateful for the attitude of support around here.
Last week I had the pleasure of meeting up with Angie Parker at Avenu Fitness to learn a little more about her role as a fitness trainer as well as her role as a Mommy to a 3.5-year-old son with another baby on the way!
I’ve spent my entire career in Houston. It has become a “small world” as I have met and re-encountered so many people over the years. Houstonians are truly warm and compassionate, family-oriented and friendly people. Doors have been opened so many times by simply relying on friends and acquaintances.
