Meet a Houston Mom | Meet Kimberly Yates, Owner of Core Society Pilates - West University Moms

Where did you grow up, and how long have you been living in Houston?

I was born in a small town in Ohio and moved to Houston 30 years ago to attend the University of Houston—and I’ve never left! This city’s energy still gets me every day! I’ve been a serial entrepreneur for 30 years, and this is my third startup. Most of my career was in the oil and gas industry.

How many children do you have, and what are their ages?

I have two rock-star sons (25 and 23) and two fierce Aggie Gals (20 and 19). Our house isn’t as loud as it used to be. I miss the chaos! Empty Nester Syndrome is real. If anyone wants to start a support group, I’m here for it

One thing people might not know about you…

At 45, I was dealing with leaky gut and hitting menopause like a freight train. I changed my habits and fell absolutely in love with Pilates. I’m really hoping to be part of coaching our community about hormone replacement therapy and all the changes that come with menopause. We need to really have support and a change of mindset about diet to help women thrive during this period instead of being scared or thinking I can’t do anything—you can! Move, use food as fuel, and come be part of our community—any community!

What are your favorite local things to do in Houston?

I love hunting for the best eats and wellness events—only in West University, Bellaire, and Braeswood. I don’t shop or dine anywhere else!

Are you involved in a business, a local organization, a creative project, or in the corporate world?

I own the Core Society Pilates – right here in the West University/Braeswood area. This community is incredibly committed to small businesses and healthy lifestyles—I knew instantly that this was where I had to launch my first studio. I honestly don’t even want to leave work! I support the Braeswood Moms Group – West U moms – any moms group – Women of Wardrobe – all the local schools.

How has the Houston community helped you get where you are today?

The strong local support for wellness and small businesses in West U, Bellaire, and Braeswood made starting my Pilates studio possible. I couldn’t have done it without you all!

What is the best advice for juggling mommyhood and running a business?

Protect your mornings like gold, batch everything, and remember: asking for help isn’t weakness—it’s superpower.

What would you tell the old “You” before you had kids?

“Girl, start those gut-health habits NOW and soak up every quiet minute—you’ll miss them when the house explodes with teenagers!”
#1 – Do what you love – be you … don’t be perfect – we all have issues – don’t judge – we are all trying to figure it out! #momlife

Funniest shortcut/routine for helping you through parenthood?

“Emergency smoothie station” in the fridge + spontaneous kitchen dance parties to Taylor Swift when everyone’s melting down. Works every time
