Meet A Houston Mom – Meet Addie Teague of Relish Restaurant and Bar | West University Moms

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in Houston?

Born and raised in Houston! I left for a short period of time to live in New York for a couple of years and gain experience working as a hostess at the Eleven Madison Park restaurant and then as a cook for Abigail Kirsch, a premier catering firm servicing New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

Child(ren) and Age(s)?

Dustin and I have a son named George. He’s one.

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…

Most people would be surprised to know that I am actually a very relaxed and laid-back person. People assume being in the restaurant industry is super stressful, and it can be, but I like to take everything one day at a time and not sweat the small stuff.

Favorite local activities to do in Houston?

I absolutely love going to the Urban Harvest Farmers Market on Saturdays. Lately, Dustin, George and I have been visiting different parks in the area, which is especially fun when the weather is nice.

Do you have a favorite family-friendly restaurant in the area?

We love going to Goode Company Taqueria or El Tiempo every Sunday. Both spots have great kids’ menus and have a fun kid-friendly atmosphere.

What local places do you go to for pampering and/or mom’s night out?

Uchi is always my go to. I love their menu and the ambience; it’s cozy and comfortable, yet chic and sophisticated. Nancy’s Hustle is a new favorite of mine! They have tasty light bites and it’s a fun spot to get drinks on a mom’s night out.

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world?

My husband and I own and operate Relish Restaurant & Bar. It started as Relish Fine Foods almost eight years ago and ever since then we have enjoyed dedicating so much time and energy to our restaurant and have really loved watching it change and grow over the years. We love it because we get to run a business that also acts as a creative outlet as we help our team set the menus and come up with seasonal specials and cocktails. Food has played a big role in both of our lives and our relationship, so our business has really become an extension of our family and we hope our customers feel that when they dine with us.

How has the Houston community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

For such a big city, Houston really has a tight-knit community where everyone not only knows everyone, but also truly supports each other. Since the very beginning of Relish Fine Foods, we have cultivated a Relish family and wouldn’t be here today without them. Being surrounded by friends, family and supporters who love our restaurant makes it all worthwhile.

What is the best advice for juggling mommyhood and running a business (or volunteering, working, etc)?

Give yourself grace – it’s never going to be easy or perfect, and that’s ok! It’s easier said than done, but that is a big thing I always have to remind myself. And ask for help – that’s a big one, too!

What would you tell the old “You” before you had kids?

Sleep as much as you can and enjoy every single date night with your husband.

Funniest shortcut/routine for helping you through parenthood?

Just try to laugh it off – the more you can laugh and have fun in the moment, the easier it is!
