Meet Houston Mom Amy Malkan | Local Artist, Speaker and Author | West University Moms

Where were you born? I was born and from raised in Houston, specifically,  Alief, Texas !

Child(ren) and Age(s)? I have on 18 month old son, Zenith Adams.

One thing people would be surprised to know about you… That I am thrill and adventure seeker! I plan a sky-diving trip to every international place I visit.

Favorite local activities to do in Houston? Love going to Axelrad, Miller Outdoor theater, try new wine bars, check out new coffee houses, etc.

Do you have a favorite family-friendly restaurant in the area? I love Bellagreen

What local places do you go to for pampering and/or mom’s night out? I love doing spa days at Fiori Spa! Feels like I am in Italy somewhere!

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world?

I am a Public Artist, we have a unique approach to public art and civic spaces by including the audience in the design and production process.  The benefit of this method provides inclusion, appreciation and ownership of the artwork in the neighborhood. Our goal is to beautify one space at a time.

I am also a Public Speaker and Author, my book called The Tree Network about Networking.   Networking can be daunting, intimidating and feel like a lot of work. I lay out a way to work smart through networking rather that working hard and being overwhelmed with the idea of meeting new people and dealing with a bunch of business cards. I also share simple steps the reader can implement immediately and notice results.

How has the Houston community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now? I love getting to know the people of Houston and they have been very instrumental in my business. Plus the diversity of talents is amazing!

What is the best advice for juggling mommyhood and running a business (or volunteering, working, etc)? There is no right or wrong way and no one else is going to know how to create your schedule only you would know that, so you do whats right for you.  And integrating time to rest is essential!

What would you tell the old “You” before you had kids? Have fun and your life doesn’t begin at getting married and having kids, you’re living life now!

Funniest shortcut/routine for helping you through parenthood? Television …. PBS channel and Ellen has come through in the clutch!
