Meet a Houston Mom – Meet Andrea Young of Nekter | West University Moms

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in Houston?
Andrea: I grew up in Northern Virginia, I moved to Houston 18 years ago after I graduated college. I’d call Houston home now.

Child(ren) and Age(s)?
Harper – 11 and Lily – 8

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…
I was a C-student in college and have regular nightmares that I did not graduate.

Favorite local things to do in Houston?
Cheering on the Rockets and Astros, Tennis, Memorial Park, all our great bayou running and biking trails.

Where is your favorite place to take a mom-break whether that is a local spa, movie theater, day trip etc.? Favorite mom break is on the tennis courts or a nice dinner somewhere with my husband. 🙂

Funniest shortcut/routine for helping you through parenthood?
None! Can you share some, please!? We live one day at a time and don’t aim for perfection. In the era of Pinterest and other social media outlets is easy to run yourself ragged and take onto much. I like to say I do the best I can.

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!
Yes! Our family is the owner and operator of all the Nekter Juice Bar’s in Houston, Bellaire, the Woodlands and Fort Worth. I was attracted to the company’s mission – happily over satisfied customers + employees, products and expansion plans. In addition to acai bowls and smoothies, I love that we offer freshly made to order juices. If you want 16 oz’s of carrots, we will make it for you! Our loyalty programs work across the more than 100 stores nationwide, let’s you order ahead (great for busy moms!) and rack up rewards. Last year, we opened five stores in seven months and have one more under construction now. The response from the community has been incredible and we have some new and innovative offerings rolling out later this month.

I also serve as President of Sam Houston Race Park, a role I’ve held for more than 10 years. I moved to Houston in 2000 to work for the Houston Rockets and also serve on a number of Boards.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
I often tell people that I think our community is one of the easiest and most open places in the world. Everyone is welcoming and eager to learn about and celebrate others. I am not sure I could have experienced the success I have experienced anywhere else.

**Hey mamas, Nekter is giving anyone who mentions West University Moms a discount on Acai bowls, smoothies and juice, click here for details. Thank you Nekter!
