Meet A Houston Mom – Meet Bea | West University Moms

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?

Bea: I was born and raised in Houston!

Child(ren) and Age(s)?

I have three girls, Katie – 12, Lucy – 10 and Laya – 3.

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…

I hated cooking as a kid and didn’t learn how to cook until after my first daughter was born. I had to ask a friend what “browning ground beef” meant and also tried to make pancakes in the oven… Now I have friends asking me for recipe help, created a healthy menu for a local cafe, used to have a food blog and had my own cupcake business for a short while, I also was a private home chef to earn a little extra incom. You can say I’ve come a long way. 😉

Also, I have always been interested in Acroyoga and partner yoga but never found anyone who was interested in doing it with me until recently. There are so many benefits to doing yoga with another person. Not only does it build trust but you’re also able to go into the poses just a little bit deeper with the assistance of someone else.  Recently, my children have also started to do yoga with me. It’s an amazing bonding experience for all of us. I look forward to beginning my partner yoga classes and helping others experience this amazing bond as well with their significant other, best friend or children!

Favorite local things to do with your kids?

I just discovered the Orange Show and the mosaic garden outside. We have such a fun time hanging out there and seeing all the fun and creative artwork!

Funniest shortcut/routine for helping you through parenthood?

Anytime my kids get upset (or myself) we do handstands. If things aren’t going your way, change your perspective…literally.  It’s hard to stay angry when you’re upside down!

Also, when my older girls start arguing in the car I roll the windows down and start singing really loud until they stop.  They usually stop pretty quick…

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!

In 2014 I began managing others social media accounts and decided in 2016 to begin my own social media management company, Bea Connected.  I enjoy brainstorming creative ideas with clients and using my marketing experience to ensure they get the most out of their business marketing and social media strategy.  If you are interested in learning more about my services – Click here

I’m also working on becoming a certified yoga teacher and will begin teaching Partner Yoga classes soon! It’s amazing that I am able to support myself and my girls from a business that I started!

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

Growing up and living in Houston has been amazing – I have been able to see it grow and develop into the awesome city that we all get to experience daily. There are so many entrepreneurial opportunities here and so many thriving businesses, it is an inspiration to get to network with all of the owners, many of them who I call Friends
