Meet A Houston Mom: Meet Jenny Presley - West University Moms

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in Houston?

I am originally from Houston. After college I spent a few years in the DFW area, but Houston called me back home.

Child(ren) and Age(s)?

I have one 7-year-old daughter and two stepdaughters, ages 18 and 19.

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…

Well, I am obsessed with Mahjong, but my close friends wouldn’t be surprised by that. My party trick is a walking handstand, especially around a swimming pool. Few people get to see that one!

Favorite local activities to do in Houston?

I really love taking my daughter to the zoo and the Museum of Natural Science while she’s young enough to still be excited about those outings. But relaxing at Colonial Pool isn’t a bad way to stay cool in the summer either.

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!

I am a sales manager for Medtronic ENT. So, I spend a lot of time in the Operating Room and meeting with doctors.

Additionally, we recently opened The Laundry Bag, a Houston-based pickup and delivery laundry service. We saw firsthand how busy families, professionals, and small business owners are stretched thin. Laundry always seemed to be the one chore that never ended, and we knew there had to be a better way. Our goal was to create a reliable, professional service that people could truly trust. Houston is our home, and we wanted to build something that gives our neighbors back their time so they can focus on family, friends, and the things that matter most. By the way, if you want to try us out, use code: WestUMoms for 50% off your first order 🙂

How has the Houston community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

Houston is where I was born and raised. Most of my family is here and I am very close with them. Houston is a very open community and whether it is the doctors I work with or the other West U moms, I have found that there is always an open door and a willingness to help.

What is the best advice for juggling mommyhood and running a business (or volunteering, working, etc)?

I would say that it’s ok to allow yourself not to be perfect. You can miss a performance if you have to. You can forget that tomorrow is superhero day at school. It’s not easy being the best professional, and mom, and wife possible all the time. And one (or two) glasses of wine at the end of the day is ok too.

What would you tell the old “You” before you had kids?

Oh man … lot’s … but seriously take more naps because it’s going to be many years before you’ll get that chance again!

Funniest shortcut/routine for helping you through parenthood?

Not funny, but the best shortcut PERIOD is allowing The Laundry Bag to do your family’s laundry (and dry cleaning). Seriously, we’re all too busy these days. That is time that you should be spending with your friends and family, not chained to a washing machine or folding your husband’s boxers.

Slightly funny … find yourself a husband that only gives you a little side eye when he’s made dinner every night that week. 😉
