Meet a Houston Mom: Meet Nikkie of Kingwood Moms | West University Moms

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in Kingwood?
My name is Nikkie Hancock. I was born and raised in Katy, Texas. I went to college at Texas Tech University. (Wreck Em!)  My husband, Blake, grew up here. He went to high school here and we are now raising our family in the area.

Child(ren) and Age(s)?
Lola-4
Barrett-2

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…
I LOVE sports. I am the middle child and only girl in between two brothers. I knew nothing else but sports growing up.  College Baseball is my jam!! Maybe because that is how I met my husband, but I LOVE LOVE sports! (My husband and older brother played college baseball together. My brother was the catcher and my husband the pitcher…It was a bit awkward when my brother found out about our long-distance relationship, after 6 months of hiding it from him). Gotta love older brothers. Blake and I have been married for 7 years.

My family, kids included, eat clean, Paleo-ish most of the time. I have done 4 rounds of Whole30. (If you have questions or need recipes, just ask).  I love to bake and cook. Life is all about balance.  When I grow up I want to be an FBI agent. (Thank you Miss Congeniality).  I studied Criminal Justice in College…and never used my degree once.  I am obsessed with sticky notes. They are everywhere in my office.

What is your go-to activity for yourself for pampering or for fun?
HA! When I have time… getting a pedicure or just going for a bike ride.

Funniest shortcut/routine for helping you through parenthood?
Still trying to feel like I know what I am doing, I am surviving…any tips would be greatly appreciated!
Basically, all I know is Thursdays are laundry days.

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the
corporate world? Please share!
I am the face and voice behind Kingwood Moms. I love being a part of this community and helping other moms. Being a Mom is NOT easy! I tried to mommy without mommy friends and it was the HARDEST thing I have EVER done! Once I found my mom friends I knew I wanted to help other moms as they helped me, but I didn’t know what that would look like until I was given this amazing opportunity to join The Local Moms Network!

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
This community has been so welcoming! Everyone has given great feedback and support. We have so many fierce moms in our area.

What is the best advice for juggling mommyhood and running a business (or volunteering,
working, etc)?
Give your self-grace!  Before Kingwood Moms, I stayed home for 2 years and before that, I was a teacher for almost 7 years.  It is always a hard transition going from working outside the home, to staying at home with a newborn and then 2 under 2, and back to working at home.  My kids do go to school a few days but balancing everything is always a challenge. Our “new normal” is still an adjustment. It might be crazy but I wouldn’t change it. I love what I do for you moms!

What would you tell the old “You” before you had kids?
You are NOT tired! Go workout!

What is your proudest mommy moment?
If you read the Lola Story Blog I wrote a few weeks ago, my proudest mommy moment was that Lola survived the pregnancy and all the things going against her. She is a fighter. And from that point on I knew I was in trouble because she was going to be one strong little girl to raise.
And for Barrett…if you’re a mom to boys, I know you’ll understand this one, but I am just trying to stop him from climbing and jumping everywhere
