Meet a Mom – Meet Luisa Fernanda Nadarajah | West University Moms

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in Houston?
Luisa: I was born in Peru and grew up in Argentina, Houston has been my happy place for 6 years.

Child(ren) and Age(s)?

Kris is my 1-year-old baby boy

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…

That I hunt for my fashion materials, get inspiration for my designs and even organize photo shoots at the Junk Yard!

Favorite local things to do in Houston?
“Host fun events and meet people”… I love to constantly move, touch and inspire people to recycle and save the planet with me.

Funniest shortcut/routine for helping you through parenthood?
I sometimes beg my hubby to go out to “Tropicana Dance Club”, to dance salsa and reggaeton with me. I believe that going out, even for one glass of wine, every other week is my stress relief and recharge.

Are you involved in a business venture? Please share!
After growing up in such a European culture in Buenos Aires, at a young age I began to feel ashamed of my native Peruvian roots until one day in my late 20’s I discovered that I had a purpose; to embrace and help children in need in my country.  That’s why I started a Project Called Project Piruw back in 2015 that is now a 501C(3) non-profit with the mission to educate and nourish children in developing countries starting with Peru. One of the most exciting things we accomplished so far is a water-well installation in a remote and humble school in the mountains. Before we built the water well, this humble school was sending kids back with an empty bottle asking them to bring water from heir home. It’s been remarkable to see how his basic necessity is now available at the school!

How has the Houston community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
I’ve never met a more generous community in my life, Houston has definitely shaped me into the person I am today. It all started when I took a stylist job at Neiman Marcus. Little did I know it was going to be a stepping stone for me. I elevated my knowledge in fashion and developed an eye for style. The bonus – I met the most amazing friends, my clients, and coworkers.  At that moment my passion for fashion flourished and since then I’m dedicated to making things beautiful and sustainable in my brand. Thank you Houston for the infinite opportunities and opened doors on my path.

Come join us this coming Friday, June 8th for an Unconventional Trunk Show and check out my unique and inspirational designs!
