Meet Houston Mom Ann Garcia - Owner of Com for Care Senior Assisted Living - West University Moms

Where are you from originally?

Philippines. I’m a pure Filipina who is a registered nurse in Houston for 11 years now.

Child(ren) and Age(s)?

My daughter, Olivia, is 3 years old, and I’m 3 months pregnant now.

One thing people would be surprised to know about you?

I run 4 residential care homes for seniors in Bellaire, Texas… at age 33!

Favorite local activities to do in Houston?

I love taking Olivia to different parks around the area. Trying out different restaurants is also a favorite of mine.

Do you have a favorite family-friendly restaurant in the area?

That would be “The ‘401” in Bellaire.

What local places do you go to for pampering and/or mom’s night out?

I would have to say, River Oaks Meds Spa for pampering. And I’m more of a brunch mom, so I usually go to Emmaline’s.

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!

I own and manage 4 residential care homes in Houston and Bellaire. Took over this business last year and have since exceeded expectations in terms of performance, customer service and low employee turnover. Our homes are located in the heart of the city, so it is almost always full, but we always make room to help another patient. COM FOR CARE has held its title as the “BEST PLACE FOR CARE AND COMFORT” to the locals around the Bellaire area.

How has the Houston community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

Houstonians are very warm, kind and genuine people. If you are nice to them, they will be 10 times nicer to you. They inspire me in the way they work so hard to care for their loved ones. Sometimes it gets to a point where they get exhausted and desperate for help, and you have to tell them, “that’s normal.” They come to us and we tell them, “That’s what we’re here for. Let us help you. We got your back.”

What is the best advice for juggling mommyhood and running a business (or volunteering, working, etc)?

TIME management. PRIORITIZE. You need to have a plan. Schedule your day and activities. It may not always go as planned, but that’s okay. Have a plan anyway, and TRUST the universe! It helps.

What would you tell the old “You” before you had kids?

First of all, if I told the old me that I was going to be this successful in the future, I wouldn’t even believe it. But I would tell my old self that having kids and running a business at the same time is FUN! My family keeps me going. They inspire me to do what I do and appreciate the important things in life.

Funniest shortcut/routine for helping you through parenthood?

Always anticipate the worst case scenario in every situation. You never know. With kids, anything impossible can happen! This is what I always advise my mom friends especially the new moms: to always prepare the night before any activity, school or anything planned. That saves you a lot of time in the morning. You’re welcome! ☺
