Weed Bourbon Wins Double Gold SIP Award, America's Largest Consumer Spirit Competition - West University Moms

Weed Straight Bourbon, a 91 proof whiskey, has won Double Gold in this year’s SIP Awards, America’s largest consumer spirit competition.

The SIP Awards has grown into a movement that is gaining traction across the spirits industry. The only competition with solely consumers as judges, the SIP Awards provides small and big brands, local and international, an opportunity to receive unbiased consumer feedback.

Weed Cellars Managing Partner Jim Moeller says: “We’re thrilled to receive this award. The SIP Awards represents one of the most respected competitions in the alcohol space. Consumers are looking for a serious, palatable whiskey that also speaks to what’s current. People already have a relationship with the word ‘Weed’. The connection is already there. Then comes a mouthful of caramel with hints of vanilla in an award-winning straight bourbon, packaged in this stunning, painted bottle for only $39.99 — it’s a sure-fire winner.”

Moeller adds “The touch of sweetness and super smooth finish, the latter of which is due to our proprietary filtration process, are the most common pieces of praise we’re constantly hearing from consumers and trade critics alike”.

Weed Straight Bourbon Whiskey also received a 93 Point Rating recently from Tasting Panel Magazine whose Publisher, Meredith May described the 91 proof whiskey as “alluring”. Weed Straight Bourbon Whiskey hails from the Weed Cellars portfolio of products which include high-scoring wines, and beers.

From its inception 11 years ago, the SIP Awards International Spirits Competition brought together consumers at local venues to taste and judge spirits and mixers from around the world. This year, in the wake of a global pandemic, SIP Awards had to quickly evolve and pivot its annual event into an at-home tasting experience.

“At first we didn’t know how COVID-19 would impact our event but time was not on our side and we needed to find a way to have consumers evaluate spirits safely,” says SIP Awards Founder & CEO Pouya Hashemi.

In comparison to last year’s event with 146 judges, the SIP Awards 2020 revolutionary digital experience hit a record-breaking 482 consumer judges who evaluate spirits in the comfort and safety of their own homes. With more judges providing feedback, this provided a much more accurate and broader rating method for each of the spirit and mixer brands.
