8 Non-Maternity Pieces That Work for Pregnancy and Beyond - West University Moms

I’m pregnant with my fourth (!!!) baby, due this fall, and after four pregnancies, I’ve learned a lot about dressing the bump. With my first, I started shopping for maternity pieces and was honestly… underwhelmed. But with my later pregnancies, I realized you don’t need to buy many maternity clothes. You can invest in pieces that will accommodate a growing bump and that you can wear long after the baby arrives.

Honestly, the only maternity pieces I invest in are jeans (the belly band is great but at a certain point in the pregnancy, it doesn’t quite cut it and can sometimes require too much adjusting), and this time, I got a few maternity workout/tennis dresses. But mostly, I prefer to invest in dresses and tops that I can wear with my bump and will still want to wear after, especially since this will my last pregnancy. I even bought swimsuits that are non-maternity but stretch with the bump, so I didn’t have to invest in anything I wouldn’t wear again. Here are my favorite non-maternity pieces that work for maternity.

HEIDI MERRICK Alice Dress, $480

Heidi Merrick’s designs are all so effortlessly chic. I purchased this one for work events and have never gotten so many compliments. I’ll wear it post baby with and without a belt.

POSSE Mira Dress, $410

I love this one because you can wear the sleeve off or on the shoulder and the print works summer through fall. It’ll be great for nursing once the baby comes too.

HUNZA G Coverage Square One Piece, $230

A swimsuit that you can wear before, during, and after pregnancy? Sign me up! I tried this one that everyone raves about and it still fits at 7-months pregnant and growing. I’ve found most maternity swimsuits to be needlessly expensive and not very cute, so I got this to finish out summer. It would be great for any warm-weather trips too.

LA LIGNE Leo Pant, $195

I’ve been living in drawstring pants this pregnancy. These are cozy but look put-together and trust me, you just need them.

LA DOUBLE J Breakfast Dress, $730

Probably my favorite dress I bought this pregnancy. It’s so chic and will work great for any events this fall after baby arrives. The neckline draws the neck up and it’s great for concealing a bump.

DÔEN Katherina Dress, $350

DÔEN dresses are my go-to during pregnancy and postpartum. I love this style—it’s so flattering with or without a bump and easy to nurse in. I love the white and will just wear with a cream fisherman cable knit sweater and darker accessories come fall.

NATALIE MARTIN Fiore Maxidress, $390

These flowy caftan-style dresses are always my go-to. They’re chic and flattering with or without a bump and easily dress up or down.

LIONESS Boyfriend Shirt, $79

An oversized button-down shirt is perfect for pregnancy. It’ll grow with your bump, looks chic with everything from leggings to jeans and they’re great for nursing once baby arrives.
