Camp For All was founded in 1993 by two Houston physicians and a parent who lost a child to cancer. Their vision was to create a radical place where children and adults with challenging illnesses or special needs could have life changing experiences in a barrier-free environment. Camp For All hosts campers from 64 different not-for-profit organizations and strives to raise $2 million annually to help bring very special campers to Camp. Camper challenges include cancer, autism, muscular dystrophy, epilepsy, severe burns, sickle cell, cerebral palsy, cognitive challenges, cardiac issues, PKU, NF, HIV, dermatological issues, spinal cord injuries and more. The children and adults come from the greater Houston area and southeast Texas and several of the camps draw nationally and internationally.
Although we are located in Burton, Texas, our office is here in Houston and we serve beyond our campsite through Camp 2U. Camp For All 2U allows children to discover life by providing a week long, day camp experience in the city. In 2018 Camp For All 2U will impact nearly 500 campers at five different hospitals and one bereavement organization, utilizing more than 300 volunteers. Dell Children’s Hospital and Texas Children’s Hospital are just two of the five locations we serve.
Camp For All will host the 1st Annual Over The Edge event at Hotel Alessandra Houston 1070 Dallas St, Houston, TX 77002 on April 13, 2019. This is a unique event where only 80 participants (Rappellers) will rappel down the side of Hotel Alessandra to raise awareness of our barrier-free campsite. This event is BARRIER-FREE meaning that people of all abilities are able and encouraged to participate.
