Event highlights include streamed concerts, fitness classes and a science

experiment

HOUSTON, TX Discovery Green, the 12-acre park in the heart of downtown Houston, announces its modified Summer 2020 programming. Consisting entirely of online events featuring local artists, musicians, performers and instructors, the schedule supports Discovery Green Conservancy’s mission to be a source of health and happiness for Houstonians. By employing local artists and performers the Conservancy hopes to shine a window into the incredible diversity of arts and traditions that enrich life in Houston. Discovery Green’s online programming is free thanks to contributions from park supporters, foundations and sponsors. Donations are also accepted at discoverygreen.com/donate.

The Discovery Green Conservancy is committed to its mission even during this pandemic,” said Barry Mandel, president and park director. “As our community struggles with uncertainty and social distancing, we are doing what we can to provide some of the same experiences you’d find at the park, made to enjoy from the comfort and safety of your home.”

Familiar event offerings include Discovery Green Stream Concerts filmed at the park with no audience premiering on Thursday evenings; fitness class favorites like yoga and Tai Chi; and family-friendly programming such as Superhero story time and science experiments. The public can enjoy all of the online programming for free from home by visiting the park’s website or Facebook page.

Although on-site programming is canceled until further notice, the park is open to visitors and The Lake House has resumed to-go service from Thursday through Monday from 12 to 7 p.m. The Discovery Green Conservancy asks visitors to practice social distancing and wear masks. Playground equipment and benches are off limits and the restrooms are closed; hand-washing stations are available throughout the park.
