The mornings usually start when my 2-year-old son awakes around 6:30 am or even earlier if the dog starts barking at the first signs of dawn. If I’m lucky, I can swig a cup of instant coffee before being thrown into high gear dressing my two young sons, making breakfast, packing lunch and trying to get us all out the door to be on time for school at 8:00 am.
Waking up early to spend time in the mirror hasn’t been built into my morning routine because I stay up late after my kids go to sleep so I can work on my blog, West University Moms. Nighttime is easily the quietest and most peaceful time of day free from the many daily distractions. However, this lack of a self-care routine leaves me feeling like I’m doing the parent version of the “walk of shame”, strolling with my youngest son to his classroom through the long hallways of St. Catherine’s Montessori… messy hair, a bare face and wearing the cleanest pair of yoga pants I could find that day.
Putting on makeup has become a luxury that is normally reserved for a couple times a week if I am invited to dinner or have a meeting with a client. The old me (before kids) would have never imagined that I would sacrifice my beauty routine. This all recently changed though when one of my best friends started showing up for school drop-off with LIFE added to her face. I asked her what her new secret was… “Lash Extensions” she exclaimed! Of course, I had heard of lash extensions and had seen many women wearing them. It wasn’t until I realized that they could replace makeup without actually having to spend time applying it that I decided to give it a try!
I quickly made an appointment with Amazing Lash Studio , the studio that my friend had recommended and a name that I was familiar with. Their staff was professional and kind, and my stylist showed me a selection of different styles I could choose from. I went with “Natural” because I didn’t want it to look too obvious or dramatic. My appointment was faster than I expected, it took about an hour which was very convenient and very relaxing… I slept the whole time, only waking up when my snoring aroused me. I awoke to the fan blowing on my face sealing the adhesive and when she handed me the mirror – I was in love with my reflection! My eyelashes looked stunning and incredibly natural and didn’t feel heavy or awkward.
There are a lot of things women sacrifice when they become moms taking care of little human beings…. and beauty and self-care are usually at the top of the list. I am thrilled with my eyelash extensions, they make me feel gorgeous and glam the moment I get up in the morning. I can’t even think of how basic I’m going to look if I ever stop wearing them. It’s probably safe to say I am hooked!
