Houston Business Saturday: Plum Spark | West University Moms

Plum Spark is a Houston-based subscription box delivering fun learning adventures for kids and parents to enjoy together. Each month’s adventure contains a mix of projects, crafts and experiments designed to engage younger (ages 4-9) and older learners alike.

Every month kids will enjoy diving into different themes like chocolate, mummies, rockets and yoga. Experiment with chocolate! Design a spacesuit! Hold flamingo pose with your eyes closed! Build a storm surge demo! These are the types of fun and creative projects that kids will explore in Plum Spark learning adventures. And Sandy makes sure that every Plum Spark project is something that a parent will enjoy just as much as their child will.

Plum Spark was created by local mom Sandy Polu.  In 2016 she found herself transitioning from working in technology to being a stay-at-home mom with 12 hours of time to fill every day with her son. So one day when her son asked about how chocolate was made, she was thrilled! Sandy and her son started exploring the world of chocolate—where it comes from, how it’s made and why it tastes the way it does. Her son loved all of the “chocolate” projects.

Sandy soon began creating educational projects and crafts around things that fascinated her son and that were also interesting for her as the parent. They both had so much fun interacting this way. Two years later, she decided to create Plum Spark to help other families explore and learn together.
