Following a Whirlwind 2020, the 2021 Colors of the Year Aim for Serenity
Many are transforming their homes and favorite indoor spaces into soothing escapes from the outside world. Pantone, Benjamin Moore, Sherwin Williams, Behr, PPG and Valspar have all chosen different warm hues and occasional pops of color for their 2021 Colors of the Year.
As always, my opinion is that, the Color of the Year is whatever makes you happy.
Pantone | Colors: Ultimate Gray & Illuminating
Pantone’s goal this year was express a message of positivity, resilience and hope by choosing “two independent colors that highlight how different elements come together to support one another… Practical and rock solid but at the same time warming and optimistic.”
Benjamin Moore | Color: Aegean Teal
Benjamin Moore named Aegean Teal an “intriguing, balanced and deeply soothing” color which aims to create natural harmony and allow one to take a moment to reflect and reset.
Sherwin Williams | Color: Urbane Bronze
Urbane Bronze encourages one to “tap into nature with a hue whose warmth and comfort breathe down-to-earth tranquility; capturing that simple sophistication every space is searching for.” Great for accent walls, cabinetry, exteriors, you name it!
Behr | Color: 21 Colors to Elevate Your Comfort Zone in 2021
This curated palette explores six themes to create a sense of comfort, suitable for any style: Casual Comfort, Optimistic View, Subtle Focus, Calm Zone, Quiet Haven & Outdoor Escape. “The changes we’ve encountered in 2020 have set the stage for us to find ways to elevate our new normal—especially when it comes to the sanctuary of our homes and the expression of color inside and out.”
PPG | Colors: Transcend, Misty Aqua & Big Cypress
PPG chose natural hues that are “comforting, compassionate and optimistic.”
Valspar | Colors: Palette of 12 Livable Shades
Rather than settling for just one shade, Valspar (again) selected a palette of 12 shades which seek to “empower consumers to take control of their environments and create spaces that will expand their worlds, calm their minds and enrich their lives.” Valspar Color Marketing Manager noted, “Our homes have become offices, entertainment centers and classrooms – which means the colors, sights and sounds in our rooms have an even bigger impact on our daily lives.”
