The Junior League of Houston Meets Community Needs During Pandemic and Weather Events - West University Moms

The Junior League of Houston continues to Build a Better Community by serving Houston and meeting the community’s needs during both the COVID-19 pandemic and recent weather-related events. The organization remains an innovative group of volunteer women who have pivoted to find opportunities to serve during these unprecedented times. Below are a few recent community events I wanted to share:

Crisis Food and Water Drive

The League partnered with multiple Houston agencies to supply pre-identified families with meals, water and more at the Crisis Food and Water Drive on Saturday, March 6, 2021, at the Junior League of Houston. Each family received a family-sized meal and a case of water in a safe, drive-through format. The Junior League of Houston is proud to be able to help meet the basic needs of families and children in the Houston community during this difficult time, and they partnered with the below agencies:

  • BEAR
  • Child Advocates
  • Chinquapin
  • DePelchin Children’s Center
  • Neighbors in Action
  • Houston Area Women’s Center
  • Mission of Yahweh
  • Nehemiah Center
  • Operation Homefront
  • Small Steps Nurturing Center

Community Assitance Grants

The League’s Community Assistance Program supports the community through direct financial support. For 65 years, the League has served the community in this manner, not only giving millions of dollars in financial support but establishing relationships and cultivating partnerships with agencies across the greater Houston area. $150,000 were designated to fund Community Assistance Grants this year and the League was able to offer financial support to the below organizations :

  • ChildBuilders
  • Counseling Connections For Change, Inc.
  • Family to Family Network
  • First3Years
  • Gift of Adoption Fund
  • Houston Furniture Bank
  • LifeHouse of Houston, Inc.
  • Literacy Now
  • Nature Discovery Center
  • Neighbors in Action
  • SIRE Inc
  • Texas Center for the Missing
  • The Rose

Would you be interested in featuring some of the Junior League’s recent work in the community? President Rachel Regan and Focus Area Chairman Courtney Baker are available for interviews.
