Winter Holidays are Coming! | West University Moms

The winter holidays are one of my favorite times of the year as Houston temps cool down and families share special times in their beautiful homes that I was lucky enough to assist them in finding. I have been assisting families in the West University & Southside Place areas buy and sell for almost 40 years. I have enjoyed being a Southside Place Resident for 35 years and have raised my three daughters in this very special community! My oldest daughter Melissa joined me as my assistant eight years ago and finds assisting buyers & sellers in the neighborhood she grew up in an extra special treat.

Light & Festive Decor

One of my family’s favorite holiday traditions is walking our dogs around the neighborhood to look at all the fantastic displays of lights & holiday decor! My family especially enjoys walking around Southside Place to see who has been given the awards for Best Overall, Best Door, and Santa’s Choice.

We have also enjoyed going to Lights in the Heights the past few years to take in the festive holiday spirit and fabulous light displays. It’s always fun to walk around in the cool temps and with a hot beverage in tow!  We have also loved visiting the Houston Zoo for Zoo Lights and seeing all the fun animal-themed holiday lights.

Holiday Shopping

When it comes to holiday shopping there are so many great options in Houston and it is often fun to see the shopping centers all lit up with the festive spirit! My girls & I especially enjoy going to Kuhl Linscomb as they always have fun displays and gifts for the holidays. My girls and I also have a tradition of exploring the Nutrcraker Market every year and overindulging in all the tasty holiday treats and specialty holiday items. It feels as though you’ve walked into a winter wonderland! Rice Village is another fun place to shop for holiday presents. We enjoy walking around and looking in the festive windows. Emerson Sloan is such a fun place to buy holiday party decor.

Holiday Food

Our family’s tradition for the last few years has been to get a bag of specialty cheeses from the Dairy Maids in the heights and enjoy a festive homemade charcuterie board.

Happy Holidays!
