Meet a Houston Mom | Meet Katy Trudeau of Energy Ogre | West University Moms

Meet A Mom – Welcome to your Interview!

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in Houston?

Originally, I am from Pearland, TX and have lived in Houston for 25 years.

Child(ren) and Age(s)? Tallis age 6 and Tristan age 5

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…I love to train for and run half marathons – I’m signed up for the Houston Half in January 2020.

Favorite local activities to do in Houston?

Love to run the Bayou trails that lead from Memorial Park to downtown Houston. Love the International Festival, Art Car Parade & St. Arnold’s Brewery

Do you have a favorite family-friendly restaurant in the area?

The Rustic

What local places do you go to for pampering and/or mom’s night out?

Sweet Moment Nail Salon on Kirby and Midtown Reflexology on Waugh

Mom’s night out changes with the trends in restaurants here, but a consistent favorite is Simone on Sunset.

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world?

Previously, I owned an IT company together with my husband.  After we sold it, I wanted to take some of what I learned from IT to help benefit others.  Presently, I represent Energy Ogre, an IT company that assures you the lowest rate on your electric bill every month.  Energy Ogre can predict how much money you will save over your current provider. You may then “set it and forget it” so you never have to contact an Energy provider again.  Click this link to sign up and get your first month free! https://www.energyogre.com/r/powermom I also help IT professionals find better career opportunities.  Feel free to contact me at [email protected] if you have someone to refer to me!

How has the Houston community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

From a personal perspective, I think the mom’s groups helped tremendously when I was a first time mom – I am a natural extrovert, so having a support group of mom’s who were in the same stage of motherhood was super helpful.  From a Business perspective, the Women’s Business Neighborhood Networking Group headed by Margaret Vinson has been a huge help.

What is the best advice for juggling mommyhood and running a business (or volunteering, working, etc)?

The best advice is to keep everything in one calendar – I love that I can sync all my calendars (family, personal, and work) together with my husband’s so that we can easily divide and conquer.

What would you tell the old “You” before you had kids?

Make sure your house is in order and don’t try to renovate an old house with babies inside it!!!

Funniest shortcut/routine for helping you through parenthood?

Always keep a ziplock bag with wipes and a pair of clean underwear for each child in the car!!!!  You never know when they are going to need that stuff while you’re out and about! Came in handy for me many times.
