Meet a Houston Mom – Meet Uyen | West University Moms

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?

Uyen: I was born in Vietnam but have lived in Houston most of my life, so I consider myself a native Houstonian.

Children and Ages?

We have two children, ages 5 & 19

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…

I don’t eat duck. Long story short, I was traumatized as a kid.

Favorite local things to do with your kids?

We love all of the parks that Houston has to offer but mainly Discovery Green and Levy Park. We are members of the Children’s Museum so we make frequent visits. Dining outside at Ruggles Green City Center with friends for Sunday Brunch is always a favorite.

Funniest shortcut/routine for helping you through parenthood?

I can’t think of anything funny, but what’s helped me through the past few years with my 5-year-old is preparing him for whatever we are doing, like going to parties, going to the doctor/dentist, first day of school, ski lessons – anything out of the ordinary.  I find that it helps him get into the right mind frame so he is not surprised when we show up somewhere.

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!

I’m a Recruiter for Sirius Solutions, a professional services firm, where I hire seasoned accounting and finance consultants for clients all over Houston.

I’m also involved in two businesses – Midtown Motor Trends, which offers car detailing, tint, and paint protection, located on West Gray Street in Houston and  Spectrum Graphics, a signs and graphics business that offers large format printing.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?  Living inside the loop has provided me with opportunities that I wouldn’t have had if I lived in the ‘burbs.  Being in close proximity to key destinations such as The Medical Center, the Museum District, the Galleria, and downtown reduces my time on the road, gives me more time to spend with family and friends, gives me more opportunities to attend events/functions that have helped me grow my personal life and career.
