May has arrived and so have the most beautiful blooms of the season! If you have found yourself admiring the tulips and violas of others, you may be wondering what you could do to bring more excitement to your own garden this late in the spring. Here are 5 great May gardening tips to try:

  • Grow a tropical paradise right in your backyard with hibiscus and Mandevila. These beauties are easy to care for and thrive during the summer months.

  • May is the perfect time to spice up your garden with herbs such as basil, rosemary, and fennel.

  • Try adding a dose of color to the shadier spots in your landscape.

  • For longer plant life, make sure to pot your plants in the best soil possible.

  • Don’t forget to mulch, mulch mulch! The mulch helps preserve soil moisture during the hot months and prevents weeds from taking over.

  • Attract butterflies to your garden by planting flowers they love such as coneflower, salvia, and phlox. To get the most butterflies to your sanctuary, include plants the caterpillars can feed on like parsley, fennel, and dill.
