Meet a Houston Mom – Meet Dr. Sheekha Sethi
I take pride in knowing we are growing with this community. It was also important for me to be a part of a practice that has been a significant part of Houston’s fabric and therefore is a part of Houston’s legacy. Cohen Eye Associates opened their doors in 1949 and we will be celebrating our 70th anniversary this year!
Meet A Houston Mom – Meet Alina Kravchenko Inventor of SwipenSnap
Ever since I was a little girl I dreamed of becoming an inventor, I loved creating solutions to the problems I faced. So when I became a mom and had to deal with applying messy diaper cream, while trying to keep Ayden from rolling off the diaper changing table – I seriously needed a solution. I went on Amazon to find a one hand diaper cream applicator – and there was nothing! So… I decided to invent one myself!
Meet a Houston Mom – Meet Local Artist, Nathalie Mathys
I was pretty isolated when I got here. I started creating little things here and there, and got introduced to the @htxbossbabes by my (soon-to-be) sister in law. This changed SO MUCH for me. I had no idea there were so many badass women out there running their own businesses, killing it every day!! Following them inspires me daily and motivates me to keep on growing my own brand.
Meet A Houston Mom – Meet Tracie Benton, Founder and CEO of Lux Style and Design
The Houston community has been a major part of Lux Style & Design’s success. We have so much talent coming out of Houston and it’s been wonderful to share this talent with not only people in Houston but also those in other states. It makes me proud to hear someone from Houston being recognized on a national level. We have a huge fashion community in Houston and I look forward to seeing its growth in the coming years.
Meet A Houston Mom – Meet Wesley and Sarah, Founders of Literacy Enrichment and Play (LEAP)
Our local Houston community has helped us grow on many levels. The schools and early childhood directors have eagerly promoted our mission. Parents have embraced our programming (we have waitlists for most of our classes). It was the parents that kept asking for advice on how they could help their children at home that led to the retail side of our business.
Meet a Houston Mom – Meet Allison Laird, Lagree Fitness Instructor at HIP Fitness
I am constantly reminding myself that the days are long but the years are short. Our time with our kids is limited. Yes, they will be around until we send them off to college, but the days that they WANT to be around us are numbered. One day, they won’t beg me to read another chapter just so we can snuggle a little longer before bedtime.
Meet A Houston Mom – Meet Carla Sue
Both of my businesses keep me connecting with the Houston community by vending at local events. The support of locals has been amazing and is what keeps pushing me when times get hard!
Meet a Houston Mom – Meet Emily Calidonio the HTX Brow Queen
Houston Community is tight-knit and so supportive! Most of my business has come from word of mouth and referrals. I am so grateful to be part of such a wonderful and supportive city.

I have found tons of support in the Houston community, from friends to local groups that have asked me to speak, as well as corporations that have brought me in to help their employees deal with stress. This goes to show how much these tools are needed!
Meet A Houston Mom – Meet Addie Teague of Relish Restaurant and Bar
For such a big city, Houston really has a tight-knit community where everyone not only knows everyone, but also truly supports each other. Since the very beginning of Relish Fine Foods, we have cultivated a Relish family and wouldn’t be here today without them. Being surrounded by friends, family and supporters who love our restaurant makes it all worthwhile.
Meet A Houston Mom – Meet Local Artist Kit Porter
My favorite thing to do on the weekends is to spend a day at the beach with my family, playing with the kids, and teaching them about the importance of marine preservation and how we can do our part to keep our beaches and oceans clean.
Meet A Houston Mom – Meet Abby Sharpe of Sleep Baby Consulting
Houston and all of the people I have met have been so welcoming–from people at the grocery stores, coffee shops, kid places, libraries, and even gas stations, have all been so helpful and welcoming. The community I have already formed in Houston has made the move smoother, has helped me feel less alone in this motherhood business, and given me lots of options of fun things to do with my kiddos!
Meet a Houston Mom – Meet Ijeoma Kimberly Oguh of House Haute
Houston is the most diverse place I’ve ever lived, the well of culture here is very deep. I have been able to pull inspiration from street styles, moms from school and church, and really cultivate looks that are different from what you may see on other websites. So many nations are represented in Houston, simply taking a look around helps me keep the site fresh and original.
Meet A Houston Mom – Meet local Author Crystal Duffy
I’m a writer and author of the forthcoming book Twin to Twin, which details my high-risk twin pregnancy, near-death experience, and NICU stay. I was transformed by my medical trauma and now I’m traveling around the country sharing my ‘emotional tale of empowerment’ to inspire, encourage, and help other families navigating through a similar journey.

Networking with other professionals in Houston is not only fun, but rewarding. The best part about being a part of the Houston community is that we can lift one another up and celebrate one another’s successes.
Meet a Houston Mom – Meet Amaris Wendelburg, Founder of Gym Hair, LLC
I have been introduced to some of the most amazing people in Houston through this crazy adventure. There have been countless people that have seen me as a new company, and wanted to help, connecting me to others who could utilize my product. A good friend introduced me to a sweet person at Bike Barn, who then introduced me to another awesome person at the Houstonian. It’s heartwarming to feel the power of women helping other women.
Meet A Houston Mom- Nicole Kestenbaum of Lipstick & Brunch
Houston’s neighborhood community feels like home to me now. I go out and love bumping into people that I’ve met through networking or who follow my blog. It sincerely makes me want to cry happy tears when I think it’s almost been 9 years of living in a new country. I’m so grateful for the diverse and amazing friendships I’ve made in this city and for the continuous support I get from fellow people in the industry.

My business also collaborates with so many other small businesses and schools in Houston. I’m very thankful to the Houston community for shaping me into who I am today.
Meet Dr. Candice Perfetto, Fertility Specialist at Center of Reproductive Medicine
When we moved to our neighborhood we immediately felt welcome. Our neighbors down the street have children our eldest daughter’s age and they have been instrumental in helping us learn about the school system in Houston. Although we love the whole city, we spend the majority of our time in our neighborhood- playing at the parks, swimming at the YMCA and eating in our local restaurants.
Meet A Houston Mom – Meet Alison Porter of Apex Leadership Co.
I love how the Houston community embraces newcomers and natives alike. Everyone is so nice and supportive of what you are trying to accomplish as long as you play by the rules and work hard! I also love the diversity of this city – the fact that we are the most diverse city in the nation is truly something to be proud of!
